For the 1951 Station Wagon, the name “Country Squire” was applied to the exterior of the car, a feature and legacy that would last until 1992. Ford used the Country Squire model to transition the station wagon from a pre-war hauler to a post-war family car. The most noticeable change to the new “upscale” model was the grille, which featured dual bullet-nose styling. Trying to prove it was perfect for families, it would once again comfortably seat eight with a three-two-three bench seating combination. The sales sheets would show this newly marketed wagon would not work as sales were low. The 1951 Country Squire Station Wagon was the second lowest in production in the Ford model line-up, resulting in only 3.7 percent of total sales that year. Though it was a slow start for the Country Squire, it would eventually gain momentum and become a 41 year-long tradition.
The Country Squire offered here is a true survivor and has been partly restored back in the days in the US. The underfloor appears to be new. The wood panels, have not been restored but present themselves with a great patina look. The chrome in general is in very good shape and shows only in very little sections wear.
The original beige and brown vinyl seats are in great condition, showing no rips or tears. A new black rubber floor mat has been laid throughout and retains the original headliner, only showing some signs of wear. The woodgrain dash is in great condition, as are all the instruments and gauges. Factory option equipment includes a radio. Under the hood, the 239-cubic-inch flathead V-8 looks great in the engine bay with the big bronze block shining against the red fenders. The engine runs very smooth and has received a full service. All over the three-speed manual transmission (except overdrive) and engine have been completely sorted, leaving this station wagon to run and drive like a champ.
Hard to find in Europe, this truly is an iconic wagon that is admired everywhere it goes.
