Spanish Historic Title
Our Hotchkiss M201 Jeep from 1961, is manufactured by Hotchkiss in France. Back in the days, Hotchkiss manufactured those, during the years 1955 to 1966, under a license agreement from Jeep for the French army.
The M201 “Sahara” was designed to face the sands of North Africa. The Sahara was not a factory standard Jeep. It was a special model that was requested from the French army. There were many significant differences between the Sahara and the M201 standard and it was much more than just a sand-coloured paint.
The Sahara has been modified to a new design, with a reinforced chassis and a front tool chest. To improve the range of the Sahara a second fuel tank was installed under the passenger seat. To help overcome vaporization problems at high operating temperatures, an electric fuel pump supported the normal mechanics. A cyclonic air pre-filter was installed on the right wing to reduce the risk of engine damage posed by sand in the air. The sand that was collected in the exhaust pipe uses the “venturi” effect in the sand and throws it with the exhaust gases.
Our beautiful “tribute” “Sahara” Jeep, is restored to highest standards from a well-known Jeep Restorer. No details have been missed, as the pictures and the video demonstrate. We at Coast Classics have maintenance this beauty during the past.
This great piece of history, can be viewed in our showroom in Estepona, Spain.
